“"कारण मला निष्ठावंत प्रेम पाहिजे, बळी नको. लोकांनी होमार्पणे आणण्यापेक्षा, परमेश्वराला जाणून घ्यावे असे मला वाटते."”
“I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.”
21 म्हणून तुमच्यासभोवतीच्या सर्व अमंगऴ गोष्टींपासून पूर्णपणे स्वत:ची सुटका करून घ्या. आणि जी तुमच्या आत्म्याचे तारण करण्यास समर्थ आहे ती देवाची शिकवण तुमच्या अंत:करणात मुळावलेली आहे ती लीनतेने स्विकारा.
22 देवाची शिकवण काय सांगते त्याप्रमाणे नेहमी करा व फक्त ऐकूच नका तर त्याप्रमाणे करा कारण जर तुम्ही फक्त ऐकता तर तुम्ही स्वत:ची फसवणूक करता.
23 जो कोणी देवाचे वचन ऐकतो परंतु त्यानुसार वागत नाही, तो आरशामध्ये आपले नैसर्गिक तोंड पाहणाऱ्यासारखा आहे.
24 तो मनुष्या स्वत:कडे लक्षपूर्वक पाहतो. नंतर निघून जातो आणि आपण कसे होतो ते लगेच विसरून जातो.
25 पण देवाचे परिपूर्ण व लोकांना स्वतंत्र बनविणारे जे नियम आहेत, त्यांच्याकडे जो बारकाईने पाहतो, सतत अभ्यास करतो आणि वचन ऐकून ते विसरून न जाता त्यानुसार चालतो, तो मनुष्य जे काही करतो त्यामध्ये आशीर्वादित होईल.
26 जर एखादा मनुष्य स्वत:ला धार्मिक समजतो आणि तरी स्वत:च्या जिभेवर ताबा ठेवीत नाही, तर तो स्वत:ला फसवितो. त्या व्यक्तीची धार्मिकता निरर्थक आहे.
27 अनाथ व विधवा यांच्या संकटात जो त्यांची काळजी घेतो, व स्वत:ला जगातील बिघडलेल्या वातावरणापासून दूर ठेवतो. अशा मनुष्याची धार्मिकता देवासमोर शुद्ध व निर्दोष ठरते.
21. Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22. But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24. For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26. If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
धडा उपदेश
6 परमेश्वराला भेटायला येताना मी काय आणले पाहिजे? स्वर्गातील परमेश्वरापुढे नतमस्तक होताना मी काय केले पाहिजे? होमार्पणे व एक वर्षाचे वासरु घेऊन मी परमेश्वरापुढे यावे का?
7 1,000 मेंढे व 10,000 तेलाच्या नद्या यांनी परमेश्वर प्रसन्न होईल का? माझ्या पापांची किंमत म्हणून मी माझे पहिले अपत्य द्यावे का? माझ्या पोटच्या पोराला माझ्या पापांची किंमत चुकती करण्याकरिता द्यावे का?
8 हे माणसा, चांगुलपणा म्हणजे काय हे परमेश्वराने तुला सांगितले. परमेश्वर तुमच्याकडून पुढील गोष्टींची अपेक्षा करतो. दुसऱ्यांशी न्यायाने वागा. दया व निष्ठा ह्यावर प्रेम करा. तुमच्या परमेश्वरापुढे नम्र होऊन राहा.
6 Wherewith shall I come before the Lord, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?
7 Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lord require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
23 येशू गालील प्रांतात सगळीकडे गेला, येशूने सभास्थानात जाऊन शिकविले व स्वर्गाच्या राज्याची सुवार्ता सांगितली. येशूने लोकांचे सर्व रोग व दुखणी बरी केली.
23 And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
1 येशूने तेथे पुष्कळ लोक पाहिले. म्हणून येशू डोंगरावर गेला आणि खाली बसला, मग त्याचे शिष्य त्याच्याजवळ आले.
2 आणि त्याने त्यांना शिकविण्यास सरुवात केली. तो म्हणाला,
13 तुम्ही पृथ्वीचे मीठ आहात, पण जर मिठाचा खारटपणा गेला तर ते पुन्हा खारट बनवता येणार नाही व ते निरूपयोगी बनेल. ते फेकून देण्याच्या लायकीचे बनेल. माणसे ते पायदळी तुडवतील.

16 तशाच प्रकारे तुम्ही सुद्धा इतरांच्यासाठी प्रकाश असले पाहिजे. यासाठी की त्यांनी तुमची चांगली कामे पाहावी आणि तुमचा पिता जो स्वर्गात आहे त्याचे गौरव करावे.
20 कारण मी तुम्हांस सांगतो की परूशी आणि नियमशास्त्राचे शिक्षक यांच्या नीतिमत्त्वापेक्षा तुमचे नीतिमत्त्व अधिक चांगले असल्याशिवाय तुम्ही स्वर्गाच्या राज्यात जाणारच नाही.
1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:
2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,
13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
5 जेव्हा तुम्ही प्रार्थना करता तेव्हा ढोंग्यांसारखे होऊ नका. कारण आपण लोकांस दिसावे म्हणून सभास्थानांमध्ये व रस्त्याच्या कोपऱ्यांवर उभे राहून प्रार्थना करणे त्यांना आवडते. मी तुम्हांला खरे सांगतो की, त्यांना आपले प्रतिफळ मिळाले आहे.

5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
1 मग येशू लोकांशी व त्याच्या शिष्यांशी बोलला, तो म्हणाला,
2 नियमशास्त्राचे शिक्षक व परूशी यांना मोशेच्या नियमशास्त्राचे स्पष्टीकरण करण्याचे अधिकार आहेत.
3 म्हणून ते जसे सांगतात तसे तुम्ही करा. पण ते जसे करतात तसे करू नका. मी असे म्हणतो याचे कारण ते बोलतात पण त्याप्रमाणे करत नाहीत.
4 वाहावयास अवघड असे ओझे ते बांधतात व ते ओझे लोकांच्या खांद्यांवर देतात व ते स्वत: ते ओझे उचलायला एक बोटदेखील लावत नाहीत.
5 ते त्यांचे सर्व चांगले काम लोकांनी पाहावे म्हणून करतात. ते पवित्र शास्त्र लिहिलेल्या लहान पेट्यामोठमोठ्या बनवितात आणि लोकांनी पाहावे म्हणून लांब झगे घालतात.
6 मेजवानीच्या ठिकाणी आपल्याला विशेष मानाची जागा मिळावी असे त्यांना वाटते. तसेच यहूद्यांचे सभास्थानात मोक्याच्या जागी बसायला त्यांना फार आवडते.
7 बाजारातील मुख्य रस्त्याने जाता येता लोकांनी आपल्याला मान द्यावा याची त्यांना फार आवड असते आणि लोकांनी त्यांना गुरुजी म्हणावे असे त्यांना वाटते.
8 परंतु तुम्ही स्वत:ला गुरूजी म्हणवून घेऊ नका. तुम्ही सर्व एकमेकांचे बहीण भाऊ आहात, तुमचा गुरू एकच आहे.
9 आणि जगातील कोणालाही पिता म्हणू नका. कारण तुमचा पिता एकच आहे व तो स्वर्गात आहे.
10 तुम्ही स्वत:ला मालाक म्हणून घेऊ नका. तुमचा मालक ख्रिस्त आहे.
11 तुमच्यातील जो सेवक बनून तुमची सेवा करतो तो तुमच्यात सर्वात मोठा होय.
12 जो स्वत:ला मोठा समजेल त्याला कमी लेखले जाईल. स्वत:ला लहान समजणारा प्रत्येक जण मोठा गणला जाईल.

1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat:
3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.
4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.
5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,
6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,
7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men’s bones, and of all uncleanness.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
17 बेखमीर भाकारीच्या सणाच्या पहिल्या दिवशी येशूचे शिष्य त्याच्याकडे आले. ते म्हणाले, वल्हांडण सणाच्या जेवणाची सर्व तयारी आम्ही करणार आहोत. वल्हांडण सणाचे जेवण कोठे करावे अशी तुमची इच्छा आहे?
18 येशू म्हणाला, ज्याला मी ओळखतो अशा त्या माणसाकडे खेड्यात जा आणि त्याला म्हणा, गुरूजी म्हणतात: माझी वेळ जवळ आली आहे. तुझ्या घरी मी माझ्या शिष्यांसह वल्हांडण सण साजरा करणार आहे.
19 येशूने जे सांगितले होते ते त्याच्या शिष्यांनी केले आणि त्यांनी वल्हांडण सणाचे जेवण तयार केले.
26 ते जेवण करीत असताना येशूने भाकर घेतली. तिच्याबद्दल देवाचे उपकार मानले. आणि ती मोडली. त्याने ती भाकर आपल्या शिष्यांना दिली. तो म्हणाला, हे घ्या आणी खा. हे माझे शरीर आहे.

17 Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
19 And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
26 And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
1 मीखरा द्राक्षवेल आणि माझा पिता माळी आहे.
2 तो माझ्यातील फळ न देणारी प्रत्येक फांदी तोडून टाकतो. ज्या प्रत्येक फांद्या फळ देतात त्यांनी अधिक फळ घावे म्हणून त्या द्राक्षवेलीला तो साफ करतो.

7 तुम्ही माझ्यामध्ये राहिलात व माझी वचने तुम्हामध्ये राहिली तर जे काही तुम्हांला पाहिजे ते तुम्ही मागा म्हणजे ते तुम्हांस मिळेल.
8 तुम्ही पुष्कळ फळ दिल्यानेच माझ्या पित्याचे गौरव होते, आणि तुम्ही माझे शिष्य व्हाल.
1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

The test of all prayer lies in the answer to these questions: Do we love our neighbor better because of this asking? Do we pursue the old selfishness, satisfied with having prayed for something better, though we give no evidence of the sincerity of our requests by living consistently with our prayer? If selfishness has given place to kindness, we shall regard our neighbor unselfishly, and bless them that curse us; but we shall never meet this great duty simply by asking that it may be done. There is a cross to be taken up before we can enjoy the fruition of our hope and faith.

We know that a desire for holiness is requisite in order to gain holiness; but if we desire holiness above all else, we shall sacrifice everything for it. We must be willing to do this, that we may walk securely in the only practical road to holiness. Prayer cannot change the unalterable Truth, nor can prayer alone give us an understanding of Truth; but prayer, coupled with a fervent habitual desire to know and do the will of God, will bring us into all Truth. Such a desire has little need of audible expression. It is best expressed in thought and in life.

The danger from prayer is that it may lead us into temptation. By it we may become involuntary hypocrites, uttering desires which are not real and consoling ourselves in the midst of sin with the recollection that we have prayed over it or mean to ask forgiveness at some later day. Hypocrisy is fatal to religion.

The Master's injunction is, that we pray in secret and let our lives attest our sincerity.
Self-forgetfulness, purity, and affection are constant prayers. Practice not profession, understanding not belief, gain the ear and right hand of omnipotence and they assuredly call down infinite blessings.

Jesus urged the commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me," which may be rendered: Thou shalt have no belief of Life as mortal; thou shalt not know evil, for there is one Life, — even God, good. He rendered "unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's." He at last paid no homage to forms of doctrine or to theories of man, but acted and spake as he was moved, not by spirits but by Spirit.
To the ritualistic priest and hypocritical Pharisee Jesus said, "The publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you." Jesus' history made a new calendar, which we call the Christian era; but he established no ritualistic worship. He knew that men can be baptized, partake of the Eucharist, support the clergy, observe the Sabbath, make long prayers, and yet be sensual and sinful.

Jesus taught the way of Life by demonstration, that we may understand how this divine Principle heals the sick, casts out error, and triumphs over death. Jesus presented the ideal of God better than could any man whose origin was less spiritual. By his obedience to God, he demonstrated more spiritually than all others the Principle of being. Hence the force of his admonition, "If ye love me, keep my commandments."

The Pharisees claimed to know and to teach the divine will, but they only hindered the success of Jesus' mission. Even many of his students stood in his way.

Christians, are you drinking his cup? Have you shared the blood of the New Covenant, the persecutions which attend a new and higher understanding of God? If not, can you then say that you have commemorated Jesus in his cup? Are all who eat bread and drink wine in memory of Jesus willing truly to drink his cup, take his cross, and leave all for the Christ-principle?

If Christ, Truth, has come to us in demonstration, no other commemoration is requisite, for demonstration is Immanuel, or God with us; and if a friend be with us, why need we memorials of that friend?
If all who ever partook of the sacrament had really commemorated the sufferings of Jesus and drunk of his cup, they would have revolutionized the world. If all who seek his commemoration through material symbols will take up the cross, heal the sick, cast out evils, and preach Christ, or Truth, to the poor, — the receptive thought, — they will bring in the millennium.
