“The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.”
1 स्वर्ग देवाचा महिमा गातात. आणि आकाश देवाने आपल्या हाताने ज्या चांगल्या गोष्टी केल्या आहेत त्या दाखवते.
7 परमेश्वराची शिकवण अतिशय योग्य आहे. ती देवाच्या लोकांना शक्ती देते. परमेश्वराच्या करारावर विश्वास ठेवणे शक्य आहे. त्यामुळे मूर्ख लोकांना शहाणे बनण्यास मदत होते.
>8> परमेश्वराचे नियम योग्य आहेत ते लोकांना सुखी करतात परमेश्राच्या आज्ञा चांगल्या आहेत त्या लोकांना जीवन जगण्याचा योग्य मार्ग दाखवतात.
>9> परमेश्वराची भीती शुध्द आहे. ती अखंड सहन करावी लागेल. परमेश्वराचे निर्णय चांगले आणि योग्य आहेत. ते संपूर्णत बरोबर आहेत.
10 परमेश्वराची शिकवण अतिशय शुध्द अशा सोन्यापेक्षा ही किंमती आहे. ती मधाच्या पोळ्यातून मिळणाऱ्या, शुध्द मधापेक्षाही गोड आहे.
14 माझ्या शब्दांनी आणि माझ्या विचांरांनी तुला आनंद व्हावा असे मला वाटते. परमेश्वरा, तू माझा खडक आहेस. मला वाचवणारा फक्त तूच आहेस.
1. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork.
7. The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
14. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight,
O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
धडा उपदेश
5 मी दु:खी का व्हावे? मी इतके का तळमळावे? मी देवाकडून मदतीसाठी थांबले पाहीजे. त्याची स्तुती करण्याची मला पुन्हा संधी मिळेल. तो मला वाचवेल!.

1 शमुवेलपरमेश्वर शमुवेलला म्हणाला, शौलसाठी तू किती दिवस शोक करत बसणार आहेस? राजा म्हणून मी त्याला झिडकारले तरी तू त्याच्याबद्दल वाईट वाटून घेत आहेस? आपल्या शिंगात तेल भरुन घे आणि बेथलहेमला जायला नीघ. तुला मी इशाय नावाच्या माणसाकडे पाठवतो. इशाय बेथलहेमला राहतो. त्याच्या एका मुलाची मी राजा म्हणून निवड केली आहे.
4 शमुवेलने मग परमेश्वराच्या सांगण्याप्रमाणे केले. तो बेथलहेम येथे आला. तेव्हा तेथील वडीलधाऱ्यांना धास्ती वाटली. ते शमुवेलला भेटले. आपली ही सलोख्याचीच भेट आहे ना, असे त्यांनी शमुवेलला विचारले.
5 शमुवेल म्हणाला, होय, मी स्नेहभावाने आलो आहे. मला परमेश्वरासाठी यज्ञ करायचा आहे. तयारीला लागा आणि माझ्याबरोबर यज्ञासाठी या. शमुवेलने इशायला व त्याच्या मुलांना तयार केले. त्यांनाही यज्ञात आमंत्रित करुन त्यात भाग घ्यायला सांगितले.
6 इशाय आणि त्याची मुले आली तेव्हा शमुवेलने अलियाबला पाहिले. शमुवेलला वाटले, “हाच तो परमेश्वराने निवडलेला माणूस!
7 तेव्हा परमेश्वर शमुवेलला म्हणाला, अलियाब उंचापुरा आणि देखणा आहे. पण रुपावर जाऊ नको. परमेश्वराची नजर माणसांसारखी नसते. तुम्ही बाह्यरुपाला भाळता पण परमेश्वर अंतरंग पाहतो. अलियाब ही योग्य व्यक्ती नव्हे.
11 त्याने पुढे इशायला विचारले, इथे तुझी सगळी मुलं हजर आहेत ना? इशाय म्हणाला, नाही आणखी एक आहे सगळ्यात धाकटा तो रानात मेंढरे राखायला गेला आहे. शमुवेल म्हणाला, त्याला बोलावणे पाठवून इथे आण. तो येईपर्यंत आपण जेवायला सुरुवात करयाची नाही.
12 इशायने मग कोणालातरी पाठवून आपल्या धाकट्या मुलाला यायला सांगितले. तो अतिशय देखणा, तांबूस वर्णाचा तरुण होता. परमेश्वर आता शमुवेलला म्हणाला, ऊठ आणि याला अभिषेक कर. हाच तो.
13 शमुवेलने आपले तेलाने भरलेले शिंग उचलले आणि इशायच्या या धाकट्या मुलावर सर्व भावंडांसमोर त्या खास तेलाने अभिषेक केला. तेथून पुढे दावीदवर परमेश्वराच्या आत्म्याचा जोरदार संचार होऊ लागला. एवढे झाल्यावर शमुवेल रामा येथे परतला.
1 And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have re-jected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
4 And Samuel did that which the Lord spake, and came to Beth-lehem.
5 And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.
6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the Lord’s anointed is before him.
7 But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.
11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.
12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the Lord said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.

58 शौलने त्याला विचारले, तरुण मुला तुझे वडील कोण आहेत? दाविद म्हणाला, बेथलहेम येथील आपला दास इशाय यांचा मी मुलगा.
55 And when Saul saw David go forth against the Philistine, he said unto Abner, the captain of the host, Abner, whose son is this youth? And Abner said, As thy soul liveth, O king, I cannot tell.
56 And the king said, Inquire thou whose son the stripling is.
57 And as David returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, Abner took him, and brought him before Saul with the head of the Philistine in his hand.
58 And Saul said to him, Whose son art thou, thou young man? And David answered, I am the son of thy servant Jesse the Beth-lehemite.
1 शौलशी चाललेले दावीदचे बोलणे झाल्यावर योनाथान मनाने दावीदाच्या निकट आला. दावीदवर तो स्वत:इतकेच प्रेम करु लागला.
2 त्या दिवसापासून शौलने दावीदला आपल्याजवळच ठेवून घेतले. त्याला तो आपल्या वडीलांकडे परत जाऊ देईना.
3 योनाथानचे दावीदवर अपार प्रेम होते. त्याने दावीदशी एक करार केला.
12 दावीदला परमेश्वराची साथ होती. आणि शौलचा त्याने त्याग केला होता. तेव्हा दावीदबद्दल शौलच्या मनात धास्ती होती.
13 शौलने दावीदला दूर पाठवले. हजार सैनिकांचा अधिकारी म्हणून त्याला नेमले. दावीदाने या सैन्याचे लढाईत नेतृत्व केले.
14 परमेश्वर दावीदाच्या पाठीशी होता. तेव्हा दावीदला सर्व ठिकाणी यश मिळाले.
15 जिकडे तिकडे त्याची सरशी होताना पाहून शौलाला दावीदची आणखीच धास्ती वाटू लागली.
1 And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
2 And Saul took him that day, and would let him go no more home to his father’s house.
3 Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul.
12 And Saul was afraid of David, because the Lord was with him, and was departed from Saul.
13 Therefore Saul removed him from him, and made him his captain over a thousand; and he went out and came in before the people.
14 And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways; and the Lord was with him.
15 Wherefore when Saul saw that he behaved himself very wisely, he was afraid of him.
1 शौलने आपला मुलगा योनाथान आणि इतर अधिकारी यांना दावीदचा वध करायला सांगितले. पण योनाथानला दावीद अतिशय आवडत असे.
2 त्याने दावीदला सावध केले. त्याला सांगितले, जपून राहा. शौल तुला मारायची संधी शोधत आहे. सकाळी तू शेतात जाऊन लप. मी ही वडीलांना घेऊन शेतात येतो. तू लपला असशील तेथे येऊन थांबतो.
3 तुझ्याबद्दल मग मी वडीलांशी बोलेन. त्यांच्याकडून काही कळले की तुला सांगीन.
4 योनाथान आपल्या वडीलांशी बोलला. दावीदबद्दल त्याने चांगले उद्गार आणले. तो म्हणाला, तुम्ही राजे आहात. दावीद तुमचा सेवक. त्याने तुमचे काहीच वाकडे केलेले नाही. तेव्हा तुम्हीही त्याला इजा पोचू देऊ नका. तो तुमच्याशी चांगलाच वागत आलेला आहे.

1 And Saul spake to Jonathan his son, and to all his servants, that they should kill David.
2 But Jonathan Saul’s son delighted much in David: and Jonathan told David, saying, Saul my father seeketh to kill thee: now therefore, I pray thee, take heed to thyself until the morning, and abide in a secret place, and hide thyself:
3 And I will go out and stand beside my father in the field where thou art, and I will commune with my father of thee; and what I see, that I will tell thee.
4 And Jonathan spake good of David unto Saul his father, and said unto him, Let not the king sin against his servant, against David; because he hath not sinned against thee, and because his works have been to thee-ward very good:
5 For he did put his life in his hand, and slew the Philistine, and the Lord wrought a great salvation for all Israel: thou sawest it, and didst rejoice: wherefore then wilt thou sin against innocent blood, to slay David without a cause?
6 And Saul hearkened unto the voice of Jonathan: and Saul sware, As the Lord liveth, he shall not be slain.

31 येशू सोर भोवतलच्या प्रदेशातून परतला आणि सिदोनाहून दकापलिसच्या वाटेने गालील समुद्राकडे आला.
32 तेथे काही लोकांनी एका बहिऱ्या तोतऱ्या मनुष्याला येशूकडे आणले व आपण त्याच्यावर हात ठेवा अशी विनंति केली.

34 त्याने स्वर्गाकडे पाहून मोठा उसासा टाकला व म्हणाला, एफ्फात्था म्हणजे मोकळा हो.

33 And he took him aside from the multitude, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spit, and touched his tongue;
34 And looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
35 And straightway his ears were opened, and the string of his tongue was loosed, and he spake plain.
36 And he charged them that they should tell no man: but the more he charged them, so much the more a great deal they published it;
37 And were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well: he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.

Spiritual devoutness is the soul of Christianity.

Soul and Spirit being one, God and Soul are one, and this one never included in a limited mind or a limited body. Spirit is eternal, divine. Nothing but Spirit, Soul, can evolve Life, for Spirit is more than all else. Because Soul is immortal, it does not exist in mortality. Soul must be incorporeal to be Spirit, for Spirit is not finite. Only by losing the false sense of Soul can we gain the eternal unfolding of Life as immortality brought to light.

Human thought has adulterated the meaning of the word soul through the hypothesis that soul is both an evil and a good intelligence, resident in matter. The proper use of the word soul can always be gained by substituting the word God, where the deific meaning is required. In other cases, use the word sense, and you will have the scientific signification. As used in Christian Science, Soul is properly the synonym of Spirit, or God; but out of Science, soul is identical with sense, with material sensation.

We cannot deny that Life is self-sustained, and we should never deny the everlasting harmony of Soul, simply because, to the mortal senses, there is seeming discord. It is our ignorance of God, the divine Principle, which produces apparent discord, and the right understanding of Him restores harmony. Truth will at length compel us all to exchange the pleasures and pains of sense for the joys of Soul.

Question. — Do the five corporeal senses constitute man?
Answer. — Christian Science sustains with immortal proof the impossibility of any material sense, and defines these so-called senses as mortal beliefs, the testimony of which cannot be true either of man or of his Maker. The corporeal senses can take no cognizance of spiritual reality and immortality. Nerves have no more sensation, apart from what belief bestows upon them, than the fibres of a plant. Mind alone possesses all faculties, perception, and comprehension. Therefore mental endowments are not at the mercy of organization and decomposition, — otherwise the very worms could unfashion man. If it were possible for the real senses of man to be injured, Soul could reproduce them in all their perfection; but they cannot be disturbed nor destroyed, since they exist in immortal Mind, not in matter.

Spiritual sense is a conscious, constant capacity to understand God. It shows the superiority of faith by works over faith in words. Its ideas are expressed only in "new tongues;" and these are interpreted by the translation of the spiritual original into the language which human thought can comprehend.
The Principle and proof of Christianity are discerned by spiritual sense. They are set forth in Jesus' demonstrations, which show — by his healing the sick, casting out evils, and destroying death, "the last enemy that shall be destroyed," — his disregard of matter and its so-called laws.
Knowing that Soul and its attributes were forever manifested through man, the Master healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, feet to the lame, thus bringing to light the scientific action of the divine Mind on human minds and bodies and giving a better understanding of Soul and salvation.

If Life or Soul and its representative, man, unite for a period and then are separated as by a law of divorce to be brought together again at some uncertain future time and in a manner unknown, — and this is the general religious opinion of mankind, — we are left without a rational proof of immortality. But man cannot be separated for an instant from God, if man reflects God. Thus Science proves man's existence to be intact.
The myriad forms of mortal thought, made manifest as matter, are not more distinct nor real to the material senses than are the Soul-created forms to spiritual sense, which cognizes Life as permanent. Undisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the material senses, Science, still enthroned, is unfolding to mortals the immutable, harmonious, divine Principle, — is unfolding Life and the universe, ever present and eternal.

This command includes much, even the surrender of all merely material sensation, affection, and worship. This is the El Dorado of Christianity. It involves the Science of Life, and recognizes only the divine control of Spirit, in which Soul is our master, and material sense and human will have no place.
