9 अशा लोकांना जे स्वत:नीतिमान असल्याचा अभिमान बाळगत होते व इतरांना कमी लेखत होते, अशा लोकांसाठी येशूने ही गोष्ट सांगितली.
10 दोघे जण प्रार्थना करावयास वर मंदिरात गेले. एक परुशी होता व दुसरा जकातदार होता.
11 परुशी उभा राहिला व त्याने अशी प्रार्थना केली, हे देवा, मी तुझे उपकार मानतो कारण, इतर लोकांसारखा म्हणजे चोर, फसविणारा, व्यभिचारी व या जकातदारासरखा मी नाही.
12 उलट मी आठवड्यातून दोनदा उपास करतो, व माझ्या सर्व उत्पन्राचा दहावा भाग देतो.
13 परंतु जकातदार दूर अंतरावर उभा राहिला व आपले डोळे स्वर्गाकडे वर न उचलता आपली छाती बडवीत म्हणाला, हे देवा, मज पापी माणसावर दया कर!’
14 मी तुम्हांला सांगतो हा मनुष्य, त्या दुसऱ्याया माणसापेक्षा नितीमान ठरुन घरी गेला. कारण जो कोणी स्वत:ला उंच करतो त्याला नीच केले जाईल आणि जो कोणी स्वत:ला नीच करतो त्याला उंच केले जाईल.
24 मनुष्याच्या पुत्राला पृथ्वीवर पापांची क्षमा करण्याचा अधिकार आहे.
10 त्याचप्रमाणे पश्चात्ताप करणाऱ्या एका पाप्याबद्दल देवाच्या दूतासमोर आनंद होतो हे मी तुम्हांस सांगतो.
9. And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
10. Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
24. The Son of man hath power upon earth to forgive sins.
10. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
धडा उपदेश
7 दुष्टांनी दुष्टपणाने जगणे थांबवावे. त्यांनी वाईट विचार सोडून द्यावे. त्यांनी परमेश्वराला शरण यावे. मग परमेश्वर त्यांचे दु:ख हलके करील. आमचा देव क्षमाशील आहे म्हणून त्यांनी परमेश्वराला शरण जावे.
7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
10 देवा माझ्यात पवित्र ह्दय निर्माण कर. माझा आत्मा पुन्हा बलशाली कर.
13 पापी लोकांनी कसे राहावे अशी तुझी इच्छा आहे त्याप्रमाणे मी त्यांना शिकवीन. आणि ते तुझ्याकडे परत येतील देवा, मला खुनी समजू नकोस.
16 तुला बळी नको आहेत. तुला नको असणारे बळी मी देणार नाही.
17 देवाला हवी असलेला बळी म्हणजे विदीर्ण झालेला आत्मा होय. देवा, तू चिरडले गेलेल्या आणि विदीर्ण झालेल्या ह्दयाकडे पाठ फिरवणार नाहीस.
19 नंतर तू चांगले बळी उपभोगू शकशील आणि होमार्पणे ही तू उपभोगशील.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
19 Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
1 मुला, माझी शिकवण विसरु नकोस. मी तुला ज्या गोष्टी करायला सांगतो त्या लक्षात ठेव.
3 प्रम करणे कधी सोडू नकोस. नेहमी इमानदार आणि प्रामाणिक राहा. या गोष्टी तुझाच एक घटक बनव. त्यांना तुझ्या मानेभोवती बांध. त्या गोष्टी तुझ्या हृदयावर कोर.
11 ... पण या शिक्षेमुळे तू रागावू नकोस. त्यापासून शिकायचा प्रयत्न कर.

1 My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
3 Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
11 …despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of his correction:
12 For whom the Lord loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
1 माझ्या प्रिय मुलांनो, तुम्ही पाप करु नये यासाठी मी तुम्हांला या गोष्टी लिहीत आहे, पण जर एखादा पाप करतो तरपित्याकडे आमच्या वतीने विनवणी करणारा मध्यस्थ आमच्याकडे आहे. तो येशू ख्रिस्त आहे, जो नीतिमान आहे.

37 येशूने उत्तर दिले... प्रभु तुमचा देव याजवर प्रीति करा तुम्ही त्याजवर पूर्ण हृदयाने, पूर्ण जिवाने, पूर्ण मनाने प्रीती करा.
38 ही पहिली आणि मोठी आज्ञा आहे.
39 हिच्यासारखी दुसरी एक आहे: जशी आपणावर तशी इतरांवर प्रीति करा.
40 सर्व नियमशास्त्र आणि संदेष्ट्यांचे लिखाण या दोन आज्ञांवरच अवलंबून आहे.
37 Jesus said … Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
38 This is the first and great commandment.
39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
40 On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
13 अहो, परूश्यांनो आणि नियमशास्त्राच्या शिक्षकांनो, हाय, तुम्ही ढोंगी आहात! तुम्ही स्वर्गाच्या राज्याचा रस्ता लोकांसाठी खुला ठेवीत नाहीत. तुम्ही स्वत: तर आत जात नाहीच पण जे आत जाण्याचा प्रयत्न करतात त्यांनाही आत जाऊ देत नाहीत.
23 ... तुमचे जे काही आहे त्याचा दशांश तुम्ही देवाला देता- पुदिना, शेप, जिरे यांचा देखील दंशाश देता. पण नियमशास्त्राच्या महत्त्वाच्या गोष्टी म्हणजे- न्यायाने वागणे, दया दाखविणे व प्रामाणिकपणे वागणे हे तुम्ही पाळत नाही. या गोष्टी तुम्ही केल्या पाहिजेत व तसेच इतरही केल्या पाहिजेत.
28 तुमचेही तसेच आहे. लोक तुमच्याकडे पाहतात आणि तुम्ही चांगले आहात असे त्यांना वाटते. पण तुम्ही आतून ढोंग व दुष्टपणा यांनी भरला आहात.
37 ... तू संदेष्ट्यांना जिवे मारतेस. देवाने तुझ्याकडे पाठविलेल्या लोकांना दगडमार करतेस. कोंबडी जशी आपल्या पिल्लांना पंखाखाली एकवटते तसे तुझ्यातील लोकांना एकवटण्याचा पुष्कळ वेळा मी प्रयत्न केला पण तू मला तसे करू दिले नाहीस.
39 असे म्हणेपर्यत तू मला पाहणार नाहीस.
13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.
23 …ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.
28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.
37 …thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
37 तेथे त्या गावात एक स्त्री होती, ती पापी होती, जेव्हा तिला समजले की, येशू परुश्याच्या घरी जेवत आहे, तेव्हा तिने सुगंधी तेलाचे एक अलावास्त्र भांडे आणले.

40 येशू त्याला म्हणाला, शिमोना, मला तुला काही सांगायचे आहे. त्याने उत्तर दिले, सांगा गुरुजी.
44 तो स्त्रीकडे वळून शिमोनाला म्हणाला, तू ही स्त्री पाहतोस काय? मी तुझ्या घरी आलो तेव्हा माझे पाय धुण्यास तू मला पाणी दिले नाहीस. परंतु हिने माझे पाय अंश्रूंनी ओले केले. ते तिने केसांनी पुसले.
45 तू मला साधे शुभेच्छालिंगन सुध्दा दिले नाहीस, पण मी आत आल्यापासून तिने माझ्या पायाचे मुके घेण्याचे थांबवले नाही.
46 तू माझ्या डोक्याला तेल लावले नाही, परंतु होने माझ्या पायावर सुगंधी तेल ओतले.

37 And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster box of ointment,
38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
39 Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.
40 And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee.
44 Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head.
45 Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment.
47 Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.
48 And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.
11 कारण सर्व माणसांना देवाची तारक कृपा प्रगट झाली आहे.
12 ती आम्हाला शिकविते की, आपण अभक्ति व ऐहिक गोष्टींची हाव यांचा नकार करावा आणि या सध्याच्या जगात आपण सुज्ञपणाने व नीतीने वागावे, व देवाप्रती आपली भक्ती प्रकट करावी.
13 आणि आपली धन्य आशा म्हणजे आपला महान देव व आपला तारणारा येशू ख्रिस्त याच्या गौरवी प्रकट होण्याच्या दिवसाची आतुरतेने वाट पाहावी.
14 त्याने स्वत:ला आमच्यासाठी दिले यासाठी की सर्व दुष्टतेपासून त्याने खंडणी भरून आम्हांस सोडवावे व चांगली कृत्ये करण्यासाठी आवेशी असलेले असे जे केवळ आपले लोक त्यांना स्वत:साठी शुद्ध करावे.
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

5 This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
7 म्हणून स्वत:ला देवाच्या स्वाधीन करा. सैतानाला विरोध करा. आणि तो तुमच्यापासून पळून जाईल.

7 Submit yourselves therefore to God.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Atonement is the exemplification of man's unity with God, whereby man reflects divine Truth, Life, and Love. Jesus of Nazareth taught and demonstrated man's oneness with the Father, and for this we owe him endless homage.

Jesus aided in reconciling man to God by giving man a truer sense of Love, the divine Principle of Jesus' teachings, and this truer sense of Love redeems man from the law of matter, sin, and death by the law of Spirit, — the law of divine Love.
Every pang of repentance and suffering, every effort for reform, every good thought and deed, will help us to understand Jesus' atonement for sin and aid its efficacy; but if the sinner continues to pray and repent, sin and be sorry, he has little part in the atonement, — in the at-one-ment with God, — for he lacks the practical repentance, which reforms the heart and enables man to do the will of wisdom.

The atonement requires constant self-immolation on the sinner's part.

…the desire which goes forth hungering after righteousness is blessed of our Father, and it does not return unto us void.

What we most need is the prayer of fervent desire for growth in grace, expressed in patience, meekness, love, and good deeds. To keep the commandments of our Master and follow his example, is our proper debt to him and the only worthy evidence of our gratitude for all that he has done.
The habitual struggle to be always good is unceasing prayer. Its motives are made manifest in the blessings they bring, — blessings which, even if not acknowledged in audible words, attest our worthiness to be partakers of Love.

Our heavenly Father, divine Love, demands that all men should follow the example of our Master … .

The great Nazarene, as meek as he was mighty, rebuked the hypocrisy, which offered long petitions for blessings upon material methods, but cloaked the crime, latent in thought, which was ready to spring into action and crucify God's anointed. The martyrdom of Jesus was the culminating sin of Pharisaism.

It is related in the seventh chapter of Luke's Gospel that Jesus was once the honored guest of a certain Pharisee, by name Simon, though he was quite unlike Simon the disciple. While they were at meat, an unusual incident occurred, as if to interrupt the scene of Oriental festivity. A "strange woman" came in.

Did Jesus spurn the woman? Did he repel her adoration? No! He regarded her compassionately.
…and so brought home the lesson to all, following it with that remarkable declaration to the woman, "Thy sins are forgiven."
Why did he thus summarize her debt to divine Love? Had she repented and reformed, and did his insight detect this unspoken moral uprising?

A sinner is afraid to cast the first stone. He may say, as a subterfuge, that evil is unreal, but to know it, he must demonstrate his statement. To assume that there are no claims of evil and yet to indulge them, is a moral offence. Blindness and self-righteousness cling fast to iniquity. When the Publican's wail went out to the great heart of Love, it won his humble desire. Evil which obtains in the bodily senses, but which the heart condemns, has no foundation; but if evil is uncondemned, it is undenied and nurtured.

In trying to undo the errors of sense one must pay fully and fairly the utmost farthing, until all error is finally brought into subjection to Truth. The divine method of paying sin's wages involves unwinding one's snarls, and learning from experience how to divide between sense and Soul.
"Whom the Lord loveth He chasteneth." He, who knows God's will or the demands of divine Science and obeys them, incurs the hostility of envy; and he who refuses obedience to God, is chastened by Love.
